About the Artist
Dan Leighton is a British artist with an academic as well as artistic background. This has enabled him to live and work in a variety of fields, in a number of countries around the world. His greatest exposure in the past has been in the United States, principally in South Florida, where Leighton painted in the 80s and early 90s. At the time his style and subject matter was popular and marketable, and original and published works sold well. This success supported his ongoing education and the pursuit of other interests over the last ten years has meant that art has been a part-time, though passionate hobby rather than a career. More recently though, Dan has been able to devote more time to his greatest love…painting!
After two years in Tokyo, Japan, Dan has returned to Europe and is currently on assignment in Dusseldorf, Germany. He is hoping to exhibit in London later this year (check back for details). There are exciting experiments with abstraction, sensuous canvasses and some stunning photography. An older and wiser artist is bringing a fresh and rich approach to his work, while collectors of earlier pieces will recognise elements of the old style, and beautiful women will continue dominate his subjects.
“The reason that we love art is because there are still so many questions about ourselves that remain unresolved, which is why art has always had a close relationship with the disciplines of philosophy, religion and science. For me art is about the visualisation and portrayal of beauty. Almost anything can be represented as an object of beauty but there is energy, emotion and enigma in the female form that encapsulates everything about humanity. When lost in a painting I am always fascinated to find that pure beauty and sensuality can hold so many clues to life’s little (and big!) mysteries.”
